Process Unite has completed Stage One of this journey

The signed Maja Agreement contains the DNA of our people - handprints of our Elders and thumb prints of our little ones, who will be the leaders of tomorrow.

Process Unite has completed Stage One.

What began with a commitment at Hidden Valley on Gugu Badhun Country in 2018 was realised at the historic Cultural Authorisation and Maja Agreement celebrations at Mungalla last November.

What has it given us?

·   In 2024, Senior Elders gave us the Cultural Authority to push forward with a statement of authority and a set of core Cultural First Principles to guide us.

·     Traditional Owner members of the Process Unite Unity Working Group, were able to work with their communities, sharing information and gathering support for a collective push for self-determination.

·     A groundswell of support from RNTBCs, that began following the RNTBC Forum in April 2025 and was then consolidated by the wider community of Traditional Owners at the Maja Gathering at Murray Falls on Girramay Country.

·     Sound legal advice for the journey ahead.

·     A commitment from five Traditional Owner groups to push for collective self-determination.

· Part of the Maja Agreement signed on 29 November stated:

“Our journey seeks to acknowledge the truth of what has happened to us, our lands and our peoples and to purposely and boldly envisage and bring to life a self-determined future that honours our Ancestors and uplifts our future generations.

We stand in unity with shared strength to continue on our collective restorative journey together.

From time immemorial across the ages: we are the surviving descendants of the Ancestors; we are the living testimony of the Old People and their legacy; we are the foundations of what is to come.

We are one together.”
